Syngenta Plant Growth Rooms
Weiss Gallenkamp have recently installed six Plant Growth Rooms at Syngenta facilities in the UK. Syngenta is a world-leading agribusiness committed to sustainable agriculture through innovative research and technology. The company is a leader in crop protection, and ranks third in the high-value commercial seeds market.
Weiss Gallenkamp's relationship with Syngenta spans a number of years, having installed many rooms and chambers there previously.
The new plant growth rooms are to be used for research into weed control and are of two differing types, Weed Control type 1 and Weed Control type 2. They have the following capabilities:
Weed Control Type 1
- Temp range +5°C to +35°C
- Humidity range
- 85% to 95% rh at +5°C
- 40% to 95% rh at +35°C
- Horizontal Airflow
- Containment level 2 (positive/negative pressurisation, trapped drain, filtration of air exchange)
- Epoxy floor
- 1200µmol/m2 lighting at 350mm
- Dimmable lighting
- Temperature controlled individual lampboxes
- Uniformity of +/-10% over 75% of growing area
- 4 to 6 air changes per hour
- Chilled water cooling using 3 x chillers, each rated at 50% duty, to give back up facility
- Comprehensive acceptance testing
Weed Control Type 2
- Temp range +2°C to +35°C
- Humidity range
- 85% to 95% rh at +2°C
- 40% to 95% rh at +35°C
- Horizontal Airflow
- Containment level 2 (positive/negative pressurisation, trapped drain, filtration of air exchange)
- Epoxy floor
- 1200µmol/m2 lighting at 350mm
- Dimmable lighting
- Temperature controlled individual lampboxes
- Uniformity of +/-10% over 75% of growing area

- Additional DX cooling on the +2°C rooms

Weiss Gallenkamp manufacture & design standard & bespoke Environmental Test Chambers, Temperature Test Chambers Pharmaceutical Stability Test Cabinets and Humidity Test Chambers.
In addition to this, special projects are also undertaken such as Altitude Test Chambers, Pharmaceutical Stability Test Rooms, Plant Growth Rooms and applications for Automotive & Aerospace testing.
