Fitotron® Plant Growth Chambers allow the researcher access to most world climatic conditions while eliminating the variability found in Fitotron Plant Growth Chambersnature. 

Fitotron's proven design incorporates the very latest advances in state-of-the-art programmer technology and energy efficient lighting systems, culminating in plant growth chambers with a wider performance range, greater control of conditions and with unequalled reliability and durability.

Growth chamber lighting:

  • Energy efficient - high frequency fluorescent lighting uses up to 25% less energy than ordinary fluorescent lamps
  • Light regulation allows the user to select exactly the desired lighting level between approximately 10% to 100% output
  • Provides maximum lighting uniformity at low light levels
  • Long operating life
  • Programmable to enable true 'dawn/dusk' simulation - reduces light shock
  • Supplementary 'red/far red' lighting is fitted as standard

For very high applications (up to 1250m mol.m-²s-¹, 95,000 Lux, 274Wm-²) our 'PL' fluorescent light source, high frequency lamps do not age quickly with time. All lamp systems in our Fitotron® chambers are separated from the growing areas by a transparent screen to:

  • Reduce heating effects on plant materials
  • Enable easy cleaning and servicing
  • Ensure constant light output by maintaining lamps at their maximum operating temperature
  • Provide added safety against accidental lamp breakage or electric shocks

Metal halide (HQI) lamps are also available as a standard option.

Diurnal Cycling Control

Diurnal cycling control using electronic condition sequencer allows independent selection of 'day/night' conditions for temperature and relative humidity (RH), photoperiod of main lighting system and frequency and duration of supplementary red spectrum lamps. The sequencer displays real-time and has a battery back-up in case of mains power interrupt.

For user convenience, both actual Plant Growth Chamber conditions and 'day/night' set values for temperature and %RH are permanently displayed on the control panel. All test condition parameters can be viewed at a glance:

  • Digital display of temperature and %RH
  • Photoperiodic control
  • Diurnal cycling of temperature and %RH
  • Regulated light level

S!MPAC Controller

The 3.5" Colour Touch Panel allows the user to programme a wide range of options. Temperature and humidity conditions can be set at the touch of a button, as can 'day/night' timings. S!MPAC also features a 100 program memory, graphical representation of conditions inside the chamber and a user-settable safety thermostat to define upper and lower limits.

The design and functionality of S!MPAC is such that it allows users to spend minimal time on the complexities of programming and to concentrate on the tests themselves.

  • Zinc protected steel casing with stoved acrylic finish
  • Stainless steel plant growth chamber with a highly reflective and diffusing white finish
  • Lighting system separated from the plant growth chamber for safety and efficiency

  • Observation window and cable entry port
